Nursing Home Ministry
Nursing home life is a captivity all its own. Often we think of those living in a home as very old and at the end of their lives, and even content to be in a small room or perhaps in bed all day.
The truth is that there are young and old people living out their lives in skilled centers. Many have had their lives stolen by a debilitating illness and began living in a facility in their 30s or 40s. Some are without family. They all crave love and attention.
My team and I began this ministry seven years ago through Triumphant Life Church. I am more excited about it today than when we started. We have met so many loving people and have become like family to many of them. We provide a monthly church service which the residents love! They enjoy the personal attention and are strengthened from the Word of God. Throughout the month we provide visits, birthday cards, phone calls, little gifts and most of all love and friendship.
Our favorite event with them is our annual Christmas party. We love showering the residents with gifts, cookies and joyful celebration. It is all about showing the love of Jesus.
In April 2020, we began ministering "remotely" due to COVID19. This was heartbreaking for us and all of them. We are currently remaining in contact through videos, phone calls, "window visits," and of course prayer. For Easter, children made cards and we sent in a gift for each resident.
And nothing could keep us from celebrating Christmas with them! We delivered 144 gift bags and platters of cookies! They felt loved and remembered.
My team and I, along with Triumphant Life Church, have been recognized by New York State for our service.
